She had never seen a dog as skinny as her.
“When I rescued her I had to gain access through a kitchen window and I managed to reach down over the cupboards, and she was so light I managed to lift her free with one hand,” Leafe said in a press release. “I could visibly see, despite the thick fur, that she was grossly underweight. The outline of every rib could be seen through the fur.”
Honey was saved just in time, according to the emergency veterinary hospital where Leafe brought her.
Despite how ill she was, Honey was so happy to be there that she never stopped attempting to kiss and cuddle everyone she came across. She was still the loveliest dog despite everything she had gone through.
Two months after being injured, Honey was finally able to leave for her new forever home after spending time recovering at the veterinary facility and then in the RSPCA’s care.
Since being saved two years ago, Honey has done a tremendous job adjusting to her new life. She adores her new family, who greatly appreciate Leafe and everyone else who helped save her life. To test how Honey would respond, they decided to allow the RSPCA inspector to pay Honey a visit at her new residence.
Everyone anticipated Honey would know her savior right away, and they were completely correct.
“As soon as I appeared through the door, she ran up to me and gave me an amazing welcome,” Leafe said. “She was jumping up, kissing my face, and wouldn’t stop fussing with me. It was very emotional as I formed such a close bond with her at the time.”
Honey was happy to see the old buddy who had previously saved her life. She leaped all over her, eager to celebrate her happily-ever-after with the person who had played a part in making it happen.
“I have heard that sometimes dogs will seem to recall and recognize those who have helped them in the past — and it really did seem like Honey remembered me and what had happened,” Leafe said.
No dog should ever experience what happened to Honey, but because of Leafe, she now has the finest life possible. Everyone was grateful to see the two of them again, and there is no question that they will remain close for a very long time.
