The US M1A1 Abrams super tank applies advanced technology that some countries are not capable of operating

According to media, the quick delivery of M1A1 Abrams tanks by the US is impossible since the Ukrainian army is incapable of operating these advanced combat vehicles. However, if the Ukrainian armed forces are sufficiently prepared to handle the M1A1 Abrams, the tanks might enter duty as early as next year.

M1A1 Abrams is an improved version of the M1 Abrams main battle tank built by General Dynamics in the United States in 1985. It was first used by the US Army in 1986.

The vehicle weighs 57 tonnes, has an overall length of 9.83 metres (including the gun), a width of 3.66 metres, and a height of 2.44 metres and vehicle crew consists of four individuals.



M1A1 Abrams uses Avco Lycoming’s AGT1500 gas turbine engine with a capacity of up to 1500 horsepower, allowing it to travel at a maximum speed of 67km / h, a range of 465 km. M1A1 Abrams can accelerate from 0 to 32km / h in just 7 seconds.

M1A1 Abrams has better armor protection than the previous version. The forward turret and body armor have added advanced composite armor reinforced with uranium for better protection.

One of the most important innovations of the M1A1 Abrams tank is the inclusion of the 120mm M256 smoothbore cannon, originally developed by the German Rheinmetall 2A5. This cannon can accurately fire on targets at a distance of 4 km.

The gun uses special armor-piercing ammunition M829A2 developed by the US to fight enemy tanks. With a base of 40 bullets, 34 of which are stored in the turret, while the other 6 are stored in the combat compartment.

In addition to the main cannon is the M256, the M1A1 Abrams is also equipped with a number of other weapons including the M240 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, another 7.62 mm machine gun mounted on the roof operated by the gunner and the Browning M250 12 machine gun, 7 mm operated by the commander.
