An original door leading into a 16th Century AD, prison at the “Doge’s Palace” in Venice – Italy.

Unlike many old prisons, the “Piombi” was situated in the attic of the palace, just beneath the lead-lined roof. Look at all the ironwork! The handles of the deadbolts are shaped like leaves. Even prison doors in the past had artistic flourishes.
The Piombi was divided into six rooms, separated by wooden partitions strengthened with iron plates. Access was by two staircases, one located in the Sala dei Tre Capi (three chiefs room) and the other in a corridor near the Sala degli Inquisitori di Stato (Hall of the State Inquisitors).
Some famous people who were imprisoned there include Paolo Antonio Foscarini and Giacomo Casanova.
