No animal deserves to suffer but ṣadly many do. Especially animals on the streets. They can go days without eating, they may have little to no contact and some may even be ɑƅused. It’s a ɦorrible way to live. Life on the streets is ᴄruel. And this cat lived like that for 15 years.
Barnaby is a cat that was found wandering the streets of New Jersey. He was totally alone and was a “senior citizen” as far as cats go. At 15 years old, there weren’t a lot of people who were wɨlling to help the cat in ռeed…
This ṣcraggly senior cat was living on the streets when he was discovered and brought in to the Voorheeṣ Animal Orphanage.It didn’t take long before staff-members and volunteers noticed this senior’s kind soul and lovely personality “This super affectionate fellow shouldn’t be spending his golden years in the shelter,” the shelter stated.
They named him Barnaby, and he immediately melted everyone’s heart at the shelter. Barnaby would definitely make a great companion if someone could open up their heart to him.But in fact, when choosing a companion pet, most people choose younger animals over older ones contributing to the ṣad reality of older pets spending their days at the shelters and waiting to find their new forever home. Luckily this didn’t happen to Barnaby.
The volunteers took to Facebook. They posted a picture of Barnaby and a bio. They asked everyone for help in finding Barnaby a home.
That’s exactly when Dr. Ed Sheehan and his wife Clare Sheehan of Sheehan Veterinary Centre stumbled upon his post on Facebook. “When we saw his picture, etc on Facebook we felt that he really needed lots of vet care just on his age and appearance,” Clare explained.Well, what was better than being adopted by a vet?
They quickly contacted the shelter and asked if they could adopt him right away. And needless to say, the shelter couldn’t have been happier.
Within a few days, the papers were signed and Barnaby was officially Adopted! He went home with Ed and Clare.The next day, where Ed works, to be evaluated. Barnaby was brought into Sheehan’s office, where Ed works, to be evaluated. And of course all of his staff instantly fell in love. Barnaby soon adjusts to his new home, and quickly assumes the role of their feline supurrvisor.
Barnaby goes to work with his dad every day. He became the clinic’s full-time celebrity.“When mopping the floors he followed behind to make sure no spot was missed, and at the end of the night he sits on my lap to make sure I do the books correctly,” Rachel, a vet tech of Sheehan Veterinary Centre, said.
And his health got much better too! His fur grew back in nice and thick and shiny!“We have him on ɑntiƅiotics and he seems to be improving! He has put on weight (almost a whole pound), and his coat is even starting to look better,” Rachel went on to say.
“He loves his special senior food, and enjoys being brushed regularly. He also takes his ɑntiƅiotics like a champ and doesn’t complain at all.”
Knowing this cat may have had many health iṣṣueṣ that require daily care, and that his vet billṣ would be very heavy for the average person, Dr. Sheehan and his wife opened their hearts to this deserving little boy.“Barnaby is more than a ‘house cat’ to us. He is well loved and very cared for by Dr. Sheehan, myself and our entire staff that he loves,” Clare stated.
“Keeping him healthy and happy is our goal and to make the rest of his life a happy one. Who knows the trials and tribulations he went through but now his Veterinarian Dad and I and the rest of his Vet Tech and Assistants family will love and care for him,” Clare said.
This former street cat will live out his days feeling loved and appreciated. LIKE HE DESERVES!
