Helpless Dog Rescued Just In Time After Being Found Tied to a Tree and Left to Die

A dog is fortunate to still be alive when a Good Samaritan went to investigate after hearing its sporadic barking in the woods. On a Sunday, Kaleigh Wetrich was strolling through the woods with a buddy after stopping by a nearby residence in Oak Cliff, Texas.

When she went to investigate after hearing a faint bark, she discovered a Boxer mix tied to a tree with a garden hose. The puppy could only stand or lay down in between each tree since the hose was wrapped around his head and tied between two branches.

The puppy was left on an empty lot with no access to food or water, and only the adjacent leaves provided shade from the sun. When Kaleigh approached him, he growled at her as if to let her know he was there despite being starving and barely able to stand.

As soon as Kaleigh used Facebook to call Apollo Support & Rescue, volunteer Steve Basham arrived and was led to the dog by Kaleigh. When the dog noticed them, he attempted to leap up and barked. It looks that the puppy was probably abandoned alone for at least a week without food or water.

The six to eight-month-old dog’s organs were starting to shut down when they arrived, according to Steve. After finding Lucky, Kaleigh claimed she sobbed nonstop all night.“I can’t just leave a living creature to die like that”, she said to KDFW Fox 4.

Lucky was brought right away to the veterinary facility, where he underwent examinations. He had terrible flea and hookworm infestations, and he was very anemic. Vets thought about giving him a blood transfusion because of his extremely low blood platelet count.

Lucky’s rescuers are hoping he will fully recover despite his fragile condition since they want to find him a loving home after that.

Danielle, founder of Apollo Rescue, said, “This is the first time Lucky was not scared since we rescued him. He is learning to trust humans once again. Dogs are so forgiving. Thank you everyone for the pouring in support.”

A few weeks later, veterinarians say Lucky is getting better. His platelets are still low but better. He’s also got another round of dewormer to finish off the hook worms. He also gained 7 pounds weight.

Update:

Lucky is doing much better and loves playing fetch! In early September he went to his new foster home. Lucky’s rescuer Steve Basham wrote, “He loves it and has a huge yard and even a new friend named Sapphire. He will be receiving more one on one training and attention that he so deserves after such an ordeal. I could not be happier for him! He has an awesome new foster family.”

“It was not an easy thing to do. But it was the best thing for him. He has to learn to trust other people besides just me and this family is willing to work with his current issues to help him to do that. It was a perfect match for him.”
